Church Under Construction Part 1

Jun 25, 2023    Pastor Michael Larson

There’s no perfect church, because there’s no perfect people. We are all under construction. Changing from glory to glory.

It’s so important to know where you came from. The history of your family, for example. Or maybe the history of the company you work for.  Studying history helps us understand how events in the past made things the way they are today.

It’s so important to know the biblical history of the church, Because I want you all to be equipped.

Why is it important? I believe the devil is trying to detach the millennial and gen z generations, as well as everyone else, from history, God and the Bible. Our Biblical history – His Story.

If the devil can wipe out history, everyone will easily be controlled by demagogues and totalitarians. This is what’s happening while we sit here this morning.

Jesus has revealed two foundational stones for his disciples or his church, right? He’s teaching them two key ingredients, two foundational stepping stones.

1.   The need for Holy Spirit

2.   The need for Unity

His desire for his church, his believers, you and I… is for us to be ONE! Unity. The church as a whole to be unified.

Unity, not division.

When the church was in unity – one accord and in one place.

Then, then the Dunamis power of the God sat on them and then they were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said back in John 14:17

But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.

Now the Holy Spirit is in them! Not just with them.

The real evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is power. Many people will be satisfied with good theology, and come short of a divine encounter.

The revelation of God’s word is to take us in to a relationship with the God who transforms us.

There are two things the power the Holy Spirit gives us

1.   Power of miracles – impossibilities yield to people who walk in power.

2.    Endurance – many people waver in difficult times, because they haven’t been baptized in fire.

If you look at the church- US, like an engine. The Holy Spirit is the gasoline. He gives us power! No Holy Spirit, no power.

If you look at the church- US, like an engine. The Holy Spirit is the gasoline. He gives us power! No Holy Spirit, no power.

Jesus, thought it was important enough to teach the early church about the power of Holy Spirit and his desire for unity.

We need the power of the Holy Spirit now more than ever. The church is struggling with unity, but we need to be unified.

There’s power in unity, and that is what was on display in Acts 2.
